TAMIU Study Abroad General Scholarship |
International Education Fee Scholarship (IEFS)
The IEFS is distributed in a competition open to all undergraduate and graduate TAMIU students, including international students, meeting the established eligibility requirements and attending a TAMIU approved study abroad program.
Eligibility
- Have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5 or higher (undergrad) or 3.2 or higher (grad)
- Be enrolled at least part-time at TAMIU at time of application and during abroad term
- Have been approved for participation in a TAMIU Study Abroad Program
- Submit TAMIU Study Abroad Application and supporting documents
This scholarship aims to diversify and expand the participation of TAMIU students in overseas programs by awarding grants to undergraduate students coming from traditionally under-represented fields in education abroad and have chosen a non-traditional location for their study abroad experience.
Eligibility
- Have graduated from high schools of Webb or Zapata Counties
- Have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.75 or higher
- Be enrolled at least part-time at TAMIU at time of application and during abroad term
- Classified as sophomore or junior students at the time of their application
- Have been approved for participation in a TAMIU Study Abroad Program
- Submit TAMIU Study Abroad Application and supporting documents

- Be approved for a TAMIU faculty-led study abroad program
- Submit a complete application by the deadline
- Submit Selection Criteria Material by the deadline
Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship |
Eligibility
- U.S. citizen
- Undergraduate in good standing
- Pell grant recipient at time of application
- Applying or have been accepted to a university-approved undergraduate credit-eligible program
- Study in any nation worldwide with the exception of Cuba and those nations currently under a U.S.Department of State Travel Warning
- Program must be a minimum of three weeks
INSIGHT Into Diversity is committed to improving educational equity for all students, but especially those from underrepresented backgrounds who may not traditionally be afforded the ability or opportunity to participate in a study abroad program.
Eligibility
All applicants must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be from an underrepresented group based on race, ethnicity, LGBTQ or Veteran status, or have a physical disability
- Be a current full-time student in good standing at an accredited institution of higher education including 4-year baccalaureate-granting institutions, law school, graduate school, or health professions school
- Be in the process of applying to, or accepted into, a study abroad program of at least four weeks in a single country (U.S. State Department Level 1 or 2 location) outside of the United States. Proof of program acceptance is required prior to scholarship disbursement.
- Not be a previous recipient of an INSIGHT Into Diversity Study Abroad Scholarship
The National Security Education Program (NSEP) is a unique scholarship opportunity for U.S. undergraduates to study abroad. NSEP awards scholarships students for study of world regions critical the U.S. interests. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. A NSEP service requirement requires that an award recipient must first seek work in the Department of Defense, Homeland Security, State or the Intelligence Community, and, if no positions are available, seek work in the broader federal sector. Eligibility
- A U.S. citizen at the time of application
- A high school graduate, or have earned a GED, and matriculated as a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in a U.S. post-secondary institution, including universities accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
- Applying to engage in study abroad experience in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand that has been approved by the home institution
- Planning to use the scholarship for study abroad in a program that ends prior to the students' graduation
Eligibility
- Attend an institution with an active Phi Kappa Phi chapter
- Have a minimum of 30 semester hours and no more than 90 semester hours by the deadline
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5
- Have at least two semesters remaining in residence at his/her home institution after completing the study abroad experience
- Must have been accepted into a study abroad program
- The study abroad program should relate directly to your academic preparation, potential career choice, or commitment to the welfare of others
Foundation for Global Scholars |
There are three types of Rotary Scholarships: the Academic Year Ambassadorial Scholarship; the Multi -Year Ambassadorial Scholarship, which is awarded for two or three years of specific degree oriented study abroad; and the Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarship which is awarded for three or six months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in another country. Scholars receive round-trip transportation and all tuition & fees as well as room and board. Recipients will not be assigned to study in areas of a country where they have previously lived or studied for more than six months. Application deadlines vary as they are set by individual Rotary Clubs. Awards are as high as $20,000 for undergraduate students, and $30,000 for graduate students. Standing as the biggest U.S. international exchange program, Fulbright presents opportunities for students, scholars, and professionals to engage in graduate study, research, teaching at the elementary, secondary, and university levels internationally. This program offers grants for uniquely designed research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs. Grant duration and dates are differ depending on the country.
